The 2004 Baku Autumn Debates came to an end on Wednesday, with a discussion on the role of Islam in Azerbaijani society. The series of eight weekly events were held from 15th September to 3rd November 2004 at the International Press Centre in Baku. The debates were co-organised by the National Centre for Strategic Initiatives (NCSI) and LINKS. The eight weekly events covered topics of interest and importance in contemporary Azerbaijan.
Members of parliament, political and religious leaders, NGO activists, academics and journalists participated in the events that were hailed as an important contribution to the widening of the political dialogue in Azerbaijan.
Speaking at the end of the last debate, Azerbaijani Parliamentarian Sayad Aran said that the debates had set a standard that should be copied by other organizations and had made a serious and positive contribution to the political life of Azerbaijan.
