Representatives of political parties, think tanks and non governmental organisations from twenty five countries met in Baku Azerbaijan on 27th September at the invitation of the governing Yeni Azerbaijan Party to discuss the topic Dialogue between Civilisations: the role of political parties. Amongst those present were representatives from the Republican Party and the Democratic Party in the United States, the SPD and CDU Parties from Germany, the UMP of France, the Communist Party of China, the Congress Party of India amongst others.
In his address to the conference LINKS Executive Director Dennis Sammut called on political parties all over the world to reach across the ideological divides and work with civil society to isolate extremists and build dialogue based on mutual respect and inspired by fundamental freedoms.
