Caucasus-Caspian Commission delegation visits the South Caucasus

A delegation of the Caucasus Caspian Commission,  headed by Commissioners George Reid, former Speaker of the Scottish Parliament and Oleh Rybachuk, advisor to the President of Ukraine, visited the three South Caucasus countries from the 7th to the 16th of June 2007.

The delegation held meetings in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia, with Government Ministers, Speakers of Parliament, selected political leaders, the Ombudsman, representatives from the civil society, International Organisations, and selected diplomatic missions.

The delegation was mandated by the Caucasus Caspian Commission to familiarise itself with the situation in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia and also to introduce the work of the Commission, taking soundings on issues that are currently being considered by the Commission for inclusion in its report. The areas under consideration include new approaches to the issue of resolution of conflicts in the South Caucasus, regional co-operation, governance and rule of law and the engagement of the region with the international community, particularly the European Union.
