The report of the Caucasus Caspian Commission was this morning discussed during a meeting hosted by the European PolicyCentre in Brussels. The two co-rapporteurs of the Commission, Dennis Sammut of LINKS and Borut Grgic of ISS Ljubljana presented the conclusions of the report to a packed meeting at Residence Palace in Brussels to an audience of diplomats, think tanks, academics, journalists and NGO representatives. Also participating in the discussion were Peter Semneby, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Advian Severin a member of the European Parliament.
In his presentation, the Executive Director of LINKS said that the report of the Caucasus Caspian Commission argues in no uncertain way the importance of the region and for the first time puts the region in a global context. It also argues for a holistic approach towards the region and its problems.
The meeting discussed the idea contained both in the report of the Caucasus Caspian Commission as well as in the recent resolution on the South Caucasus by the European Parliament for a region wide security conference modelled on the CSCE process.
